Asa practices in the firm’s litigation department. He has extensive first-chair courtroom experience on the trial and appellate levels, as well as presenting cases to mediators and arbitrators. Asa has taken part in several multi-million dollar lawsuits ranging from premises liability, to class action construction defect, to insurance premium recovery actions.
As well as serving clients in both northern and central Arizona, Asa has represented several foreign clients, including a serving cabinet minister in a foreign government, and conducted out-of-state discovery in several complex lawsuits, as well as provided advice to non-governmental organizations on the interpretation of U.S. human rights treaties. Asa’s cross-border experience has included lawsuits involving parties situated in other states or countries, and advice to clients on Customs and FDA compliance in import/export transactions, or advice on the setting up of local branches of foreign businesses. Outside of client representation, Asa has advised other lawyers in cases involving the enforcement of foreign country judgments, parallel proceedings, and the conduct of cross-border discovery.
In addition to practicing law, Asa has been a guest lecturer on written advocacy techniques at the Phoenix School of Law, and has lectured on international jurisdiction at the University of Arizona’s Rogers College of Law. He is also the senior editor of Law of Tea.com, a website focusing on laws and regulations affecting the worldwide tea industry.
